The alternator output from most modern engines is less than that needed to fully charge the second (remote) battery. Some vehicles (e.g. many common rail diesels) even reduce the voltage further, to near 13V.
If the battery is to be charged to its rated capacity, a higher "boost" voltage is needed. A further problem with campers/caravans is the significant voltage drop in the charge cable.
CTEK D250S DUAL - -Maintains, conditions and optimises battery life which saves you dollars.
-Uses your alternator power, solar power or both.
There’s nothing better than jumping in your 4WD and heading off on your newest adventure - except for breaking out the cold drinks at the end of the day.
Here is an awesome new product that gives you the freedom and flexibility to keeping your batteries charged and in optimum condition without having to connect to mains power.
A battery isolator is a device designed to allow the vehicle alternator to charge an auxiliary battery whilst the vehicle is running, and to isolate the starter battery from the auxiliary battery when the vehicle is not running. This allows the operator to charge the auxiliary battery when the vehicle is running and run loads from the auxiliary battery whilst the vehicle is off without the risk of discharging the start battery to a point where it is not able to start the vehicle.

A simple and intuitive display shows the service battery voltage, charge/discharge current, state of charge, and time to charge/discharge. The instrument also warns the user when the charge level is too low so that load can be shed or charging commenced to protect the battery. A resettable Amp Hour counter is provided for checking the efficiency of the charging system or keeping a track of power consumption and a second input lets the user monitor the voltage of the starter battery.
Auxiliary Batteries are used to operate appliances while you are away from mains 240v power, and so you don’t run the risk of compromising you vehicles main starting battery. These days we expect much more, we like to run lights, TV’s, DVD’s, pumps, fridges, winches, charge camera batteries, Laptops and mobile phones etc.
There is a lot to consider when planning an installation like this, so consider using a professional, to take away the guess work and unreliability that can come with this.
An electric brake controller is required by law for any trailer weighing between 750kg and 2 tonne. It is a device that supplies power from a vehicle to a trailers electric brakes when the vehicles brakes are applied. Any trailer with electric brakes needs a brake controller to activate the operation of the brakes.
